Nelumbo 'Dancing Pink Butterfly' is a poetic variety specifically prized for its airy, fluttering appearance. Unlike the dense, heavy multi-petal lotuses, this variety features delicate, single-layer petals with unique scalloped edges that catch the slightest breeze. It stays at a manageable height of about 24 inches or less, making it a "Small" variety that doesn't overwhelm its surroundings. The petals transition through a beautiful palette of soft pink and white, often showing hints of green or orange at the base, giving the bloom a "butterfly" silhouette as it dances above the water.

Note: Because of its delicate stems and light flowers, 'Dancing Pink Butterfly' is the perfect choice for an eye-level display in a patio container on a protected balcony or terrace.

"Expert Lotus Tips".

Why Nelumbo 'Dancing Pink Butterfly' is a Unique Choice

  • The "Fluttering" Effect: The petals are thinner and more elongated than standard varieties, which allows them to move and "dance" in the wind. This creates a sense of movement in the garden that heavier blooms cannot replicate.

  • Heavy Feeding for Constant Blooms: Even though it is a single-petal variety, it is a very willing bloomer that requires steady energy. To keep the "butterfly" flowers appearing all summer, add 3 to 4 grams of fertilizer every 3 weeks throughout the growing season.

  • Versatile "Small" Proportions: It is much easier for you to handle than the "Giant" varieties. Its compact root system allows it to thrive in a patio container as small as 10 to 12 inches wide, making it a wonderful desktop or tabletop water feature.

  • Color-Shifting Versicolor: Each flower is a slightly different "versicolor" blend of pink and white. Growing it in a patio container allows you to appreciate these subtle color shifts and the bright yellow center up close.
